Irina Verona and Jennifer Carpenter are the principals of Verona Carpenter Architects. We have practiced in New York since 1998 and excited to announce our new partnership.
We have deep and diverse experience across project types, including workplace, arts and culture, retail, hospitality, and residential. Recent projects include global headquarters for Converse and MediaMath, over a dozen restaurants for client Honeygrow, and offices for the Joan Mitchell Art Foundation and Sciame Construction Corporation. Before founding Verona Carpenter Architects, we each ran our own firms, out of a shared space, for seven years. Prior to launching our own practices we were senior associates at venerable firms here in New York, Irina at TEN Arquitectos and Jennifer at Rogers Marvel Architects.
We are committed to advancing education. Irina has taught architectural design studios and seminars at Barnard and Columbia Colleges’ Architecture Program since 2008. She is also the founding editor of Praxis, a respected journal of contemporary design theory and practice. Jennifer previously taught design at Parsons the New School, and is currently serving her second year as President of the Board of Directors of the Quad Preparatory School, which serves gifted students with learning differences such as autism.
We studied architecture together at Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, graduating with our Master of Architecture degrees in 1998. Irina earned her B.A. from Princeton University and received a Fulbright fellowship; Jennifer graduated with a B.A. from Yale and did not recieive such a fellowship. But she did graduate summa cum laude. Then again, so did Irina.
We are neighbors on the Lower East Side, where we live with our husbands (one architect, one cocktail guru) and kids (Irina, two girls. Jennifer, two boys... and two dogs.)
